Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund Funds The Future

The Colibri Center for Human Rights is an activist group located in Tucson, Arizona. They are family based and nonprofit. They are one of the migrant, human, and civil rights groups that is working to prevent the killings and unjust treatment that is so prevalent along the United States and Mexico border. The Colibri Center takes a humanitarian approach and view it as a human rights issue.

One of their main projects is to identify missing migrants. They work to find missing people and also to identify the dead in order to provide relief for their families. They have been working on this since 2006 and their main obstacle is bringing the gap between physical data and personal information that they are allowed access to.

They works closely with the families of missing people and create detailed report that include small details that are frequently overlooked. They provide medical examiners and scientists with this information which has led to an increase in the amount of missing and dead people that are able to be identified. Learn more about Jim Larkin:

They have also started incorporating a DNA program into their group that will also assist in the migrant identification. Thousands of the bodies found along the border are unable to identified using the typical techniques of facial recognition and fingerprint analysis. Colibri will be collecting DNA samples from the families of the missing migrants.

They will give that data to a respected genetics lab and they will send that out and compare it to the bodies they have uncovered. This is a huge development in this project and will be essential in giving families the knowledge of what happened to their loved one. Read more: Michael Larcey | Facebook

Colibri also provides families with a Family Network which serves as an emotional support and connection system. They intend to help the families and lead them along the path to heal their pain. It will also allow the families to talk together in a safe space. Since their is such a negative opinion of migrants in some areas of the United States, these families sometimes have no one to talk to about their loss.

This group works to change that. Colibri also uses this group to learn from the families and to see what they can be doing in order to better help them. They also have a history project going on, in which they strive to educate the public and spread information of the conditions along the United States and Mexico border.

The Colibri group is funded by the Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund, an organization that serves to fund and support activist groups in the Arizona area. The Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund was co-founded by Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin are journalists and also the co-founders of Phoenix New Times and Village Voice Media.

Larkin and Larcey created the Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund after they were awarded a settlement in court for being unjustly arrested by a corrupt county Sheriff. They dedicated the settlement money to their organization and used it to help groups all over the group.
