Burwell Becomes Willis Towers Watson’s New CFO
Michael J. Burwell was named to replace Roger Millay upon his voluntary retirement as Chief Finance Officer of Willis Towers Watson, a brokerage firm that specializes in insurance, reinsurance, and Global advisory. Willis Towers Watson’s Chief Executive Officer, John Haley, informed the public of Willis Towers Watson’s excitement in having Burwell onboard at a time when it needed revolutionary leadership. He added that Michael Burwell’s vast knowledge in finance and transactions would catapult the firm’s potential to its optimum. John Haley expressed his gratitude to Roger for his dedicated service and leadership and declared he was destined for success. Burwell announced his pleasure in having been chosen to join the firm, which he praised as having strong leadership, client commitment, and collaborative culture.
Burwell’s employment at PwC
Michael Burwell has held various executive positions at PwC in the United States which have culminated in 31 years of experience in finance as well as professional services. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a qualification that emphasizes his financial expertise. Burwell holds a BBA from Michigan State University. He is also a professional in audit and transactional advisory services with 11 and 12 years’ experience respectively.
His gathered his audit experience while he worked in the assurance department at PwC. His experience in transaction advisory has seen him offer his insight into valuation and due diligence performance of pre-mergers. He began working in the transaction services in 1997 when he joined PwC in Detroit. His impressive work made him head the central region of PwC and later in 2007; he became CFO. In 2008, he was appointed COO over PwC’s business in the US. In 2012, he started working as Vice Chairman of PwC’s Global and US Transformation. As Vice Chairman, he ensured organizational efficiency across various internal departments. Michael Burwell has been at Willis Towers Watson as the CFO since October 2017.
