Having the ability to choose a diverse education is something that was previously reserved for those who were able to make a lot of money. These were the people who were able to spend a lot of money on their children’s’ educations and it was something that set them apart from those who did not have a lot of money. While it wasn’t necessarily fair, it was something that happened as a direct result of the public school system. The people who were not able to get what they needed were those who were poor and could not afford a great education. Betsy DeVos wanted to change that and did everything that she could to make sure that even those who were not able to afford that type of education were getting what they needed out of it. Starting out with the voucher program was something that Betsy DeVos knew that she needed to do. The voucher program allowed people to make sure that they were going to a private school without ever having to pay for it. Similar to a public school, the government paid for the vouchers. The people who had the vouchers would then give them to the private school which would pay for the child’s tuition depending on the amount that it was at that point in time. It worked well and Betsy DeVos was pleased with the way that she was able to help children get a better education through the program.

Recently, charter schools have been popping up all around the United States. This is something that has been done by Betsy DeVos and the foundation that she has to make things better for children. Like anyone venturing into a new trade or any business, the first time is usually not easy. Tammy experienced difficult moments as a newbie in the industry until she learnt the business and marketing aspects of the real estate profession. Margaret (Maggie) Gill, MBA: The Superstar in Healthcare Leadership

Margaret (Maggie) Gill, MBA, is the chief executive officer and president of Memorial Health Medical Center (MUMC). Gill has been in this position since 2011. She joined MUMC in 2004 as the vice president of managed care/finance. In 2005, she became the chief operating officer. She led several, main, strategic initiatives which included the expansion of clinical services, construction of new facilities, and the new physician-led Centers of Excellence development. In 2006, she was the interim chief financial officer where she initiated a financial growth yielding to $30 million in annual cost savings. And because she has been such a great asset to Memorial Health, it’s no wonder she was promoted to CEO and president of the company.

 

In her current position, Gill offers leadership for all senior vice presidents, vice presidents, and MUMC’s physician leaders. She is directly responsible for government relations, physician relations, internal audit, the Heart & Vascular Institute, financial assistance, perioperative services, orthopedic programs, neuroscience programs, Memorial Health University Physicians (MHUP), financial assistance, facilities management, trauma services, and corporate communications.

Before working for MUMC, Gill was the chief financial officer for Tenet South Florida Health System for five years. During her time there, she was recognized three times for the Tenet Outstanding CFO Award. Additionally, she worked in Hialeah, Florida at the Palmetto General Hospital during her tenure with Tenet South Florida Health. During her tenure at Tenet South, she also worked in Miami at the North Shore Medical Center and in Coral Gables, Florida at the Coral Gables Hospital

 

Her Education

 

Gill received her bachelors degree with honors from Florida State University. She received her MBA with honors from the Saint Leo University in Florida. Additionally, she completed course work in strategic thinking and management from the Wharton School.

In November 2016, Gill was recognized as one of the 2016 “135 Nonprofit Hospital and Health System CEOs to Know” by the Becker’s Hospital Review, a national healthcare publication which is targeted at hospital executives and have an audience of around 18,500 healthcare industry leaders.
