A survey was carried out by the American Academy of Neurology in 1997, and they found out that athletes are prone to experiencing head-on collisions while in the field and they eventually succumb to brain damage. In 2000, two scientists presented their findings on the effects of head-on collisions at an annual meeting that was hosted by the American Academy of Neurology. The scientists carried out a survey using a population of 1100 former players. The study showcased that every player succumbed to at least one concussion in their career as athletes. The players also showcased a likelihood of developing neurological symptoms that were related to concentration, memory, and speed. In 2007, it was discovered that athletes who had suffered from a concussion had a high likelihood of experiencing depression and dementia later in their lives.
