As the temperatures begin to climb and the Bay Area loses its winter gloom, it is time to fire up the Presidio Picnic tradition. Now in its sixth year, this free event is held every Sunday through October 21. Starting at about 11 am, the area comes alive with people taking advantage of the dozens of food trucks, entertainment, and booths. Sponsored by the Presidio Trust and Off the Grid, this is an ideal way for families and the community to come together and enjoy the idyllic setting of the park offering sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay.
Kids will delight in the arts and crafts booths and lawn games, while adults will enjoy the unique beverage offerings and live music. The event is continually evolving in an attempt to lure more visitors and celebrate the unique offerings of the city. This year, organizers added a series of cultural dance programs to take place on every fourth Sunday. With a focus on global foods, there is something for everyone offered by the food trucks. The Presidio is the perfect spot for this community picnic, as it features a variety of additional activities in the vicinity, including the Walt Disney Family Museum, the Presidio Visitors Center, and a myriad of hiking trails and open space for kids to roam. Dogs are welcome to join in on the fun as long as they stay on leash. The event winds down at about 4 pm.
