Burning Man Is Great For People Of All Ages

Burning Man is a great event to go to for those who are traveling to or near the West Coast.

The Burning Man event started in the summer of 1986, and has been happening annually ever since. During Burning Man, tens of thousands of people come to the Black Rock Desert In Nevada to erect a temporary city called Black Rock City. This city is dedicated to encouraging self-reliance, art, community and self expression. The event is held for a week prior to Labor Day.

People dress up in costumes, ride bicycles, put on art displays and make art during burning man. There is singing and dancing.

Some people may get the impression that Burning Man is a hedonistic event for adults. In reality, it is actually a very family friendly event. Of course, there are large variety of activities to take part in. Some activities are obviously more geared towards adults, though there are many activities that are geared towards children and families.

People must bring their own supplies—water, tents, food and various other things. There are ATMs at Burning Man, though people use a barter system.

There are authorities all over Black Rock City. They are not around to harass people; they play an integral role in maintaining safety and security. Illicit drug use is not allowed. If someone becomes too disruptive or becomes dangerous, that person will catch the attention of the authorities.

At the end of the festival, a large piece of artwork representing “the man” is ceremoniously set on fire at nighttime.

The whole point of burning man is to develop a sense of community, a sense of gratitude, a sense of good will, a sense of moral responsibility and a feeling of love between people.

Santa Ana Winds Wreak Havoc in California

For those who are considering a trip out to the west coast—especially Southern California—it’s good to keep tabs on the weather. Currently, there are several fires blazing due to the unusually strong Santa Ana winds descending upon the region. Causing an extraordinarily low humidity level, these winds are heaping pressure upon an area that has experienced major damage during the past month. Unfortunately, forecasters are predicting that there is no end in sight. With the winds ramping up even more within the next few days, firefighters will struggle to keep the various fires contained.

Although it is the Thomas fire that has become the greatest threat thus far, it was the Skirball fire that made jaws drop around the world. The 405 is known as one of the busiest freeways on the planet. Those who were familiar with the landscape were utterly shocked to see the familiar freeway engulfed in flames. This fire would end up consuming six homes in one of the most affluent neighborhoods on the planet—Bel Air—while also damaging others. After some investigation, it was determined that the fire was caused by cooking at a nearby homeless encampment. Because homelessness has become an increasingly difficult issue in the greater Los Angeles area, it made the problem seem even more poignant.

Fire crews have been doing the best they can within the past few weeks, but it is crucial for visitors to Southern California to realize the extreme environmental stress being experienced right now.

Hawaiian Airlines Adds New Flights to West Coast

In a bid to carry more visitors to the shores of Hawaii, Hawaiian Airlines has revealed that they will be adding a nonstop flight from San Diego to Maui. The new flight will commence on May 1, 2018 and will fly daily between Kahului Airport and San Diego International Airport. The airline also announced that they would be supplementing their summer schedule with four additional flights to the West Coast to accommodate increased tourism during the busy summer season. The new flights will run every day between San Francisco and Honolulu, Los Angeles and Maui, and Oakland and Kona International Airport in Kalaoa.

The airline is currently undergoing major changes. They are in the process of switching over their planes to Airbus A321neos. The company has reportedly purchased 18 of the narrow-body twin-engine jet planes and plans to begin deploying the first models along their routes on December 19. Hawaiian Airlines hopes that the new additions to their fleet will help them maintain their record as America’s most punctual airline.

Personnel changes are also in the cards for the airline. The company’s CEO, Mark Dunkerley, recently announced that he will be retiring in March 2018. Current executive vice president, Peter Ingram, will replace Dunkerly at the head of the company. This change in leadership comes as Southwest Airlines is poised to start service to Hawaii sometime in 2018. Industry experts have speculated that Southwest’s arrival in the islands could put additional pressure on Hawaiian Airlines to lower their ticket prices. As the largest low-cost carrier in the world, Southwest typically causes a corresponding drop in airfare when it opens routes in new areas.
